We have been working hard on the BeepMe and FeedMe Facebook applications. And BeepMe is almost ready to be published.

BeepMe is a notifier for Facebook that runs in your system tray. Whenever you get a new message, friend invite, etc you’ll get a pop-up. There also a cool feature to add a text box to your Facebook profile allowing friends (or others depending on you settings) to send a pop-up message to you instantly.

I have BeepMe running under Linux, though it is a windows only application. Using crossover (commercial version of wine) I am able to run it on my gnome desktop.

  3. BeepMe should work on Vista, I’ll ask someone to investigate it. Mighty strange though that all those things make explorer crash.

There is a bugtracker for BeepMe at http://beepme.javeline.com/bugs and there is a discussion board and some more info on the facebook page of BeepMe at http://www.facebook.com/apps/application.php?id=2765420855.

The program shouldn’t need to much explaining, just download the .exe, press ok, enter your facebook user and pwd and done.

I’ve added a bug report for the crash, http://beepme.javeline.com/bugs/?do=details&task_id=1.

  4. Sorry, it did not crash on Vista, it crashed on XP. I was wondering if this program was only for vista.

I cannot view the facebook page as explorer just crashes – same with the .exe

  6. Hi Chris,

I think that something in the javascript is causing IE to crash. Since BeepMe/Deskrun is using IE it is crashing in the same way as your normal browsing IE is crashing on the javeline homepage / beepme application in facebook.
Do you have lots of toolbars installed? or other anomalies you might be aware of with your browser install?

  8. Hi,

    Very nice, but:
    1) Would be nice if links open in my default browser (Firefox for me) as opposed to IE. Who uses IE anyway?!?

    2) There is some kind of bug. My girlfriend is on my “more of” list. Also, she doesn’t have a status. Now beepMe goes into some kind of loop and notifies me of her empty status every 10seconds. I’ve got a screenshot handy if you need one? I’m not sure if it’s the statuslessness or the “more of”-ness about her that’s causing the error.

  9. Thanks for your comments on BeepMe. But please use http://beepme.javeline.com/bugs/ to report bugs and not my blog.

BeepMe is a Ajax application, using Javeline Deskrun (http://www.javeline.nl/product-deskrun.php) to integrate with the desktop. Javeline Deskrun is comparable with Adobe Air, but where Adobe Air uses Webkit as internal engine, Javeline Deskrun. Links are just processed as links in IE, this is why they are opened in IE.

I know there are Webkit and Firefox versions in development, but I don’t know how far this is. Perhaps it is possible to open the links in the default browser, so I’ve added a feature request to the bug tracker.

Hi, I'm Arnold Daniels. How nice that you like to know a bit more about little old me :).

I've spend a big part of my life behind a computer (and not playing games). I've learned a lot about databases, programming and system administration especially on. the LAMP stack (Linux, Apache, MySQL & PHP).

Have a look at what I'm working on now!
